Improved Spool Holder

Smooth rotation with bearing for Ender 3 & Ender 3 Pro

Improved Spool Holder

Creality Ender 3 & 3 Pro - Smooth Plastic spool rotation with Bearing

Specifications

Many printers are equipied with a simple cylinder as filament spool holder. The Creality Ender 3 and the Ender 3 Pro obey to this rules.

While the Machine is printing, the extrusion motor is pulling the filament from the spool and the friction between the spool and the cylinder may mechanical issue, low print quality or print failure.

To cancel the resistance on the pivot connection between the Spool and the printer, the easiest way was to simply add bearings.

Design

The design was constrained by the original Ender 3 mount. In order to avoid waste it was meant to be improved, but fully reused.

Reusing the same mount system would make the spool holder easy to install on its original mounting plate and ensure reliable position for the spool.

The entire system will be 3D printed, excepted: the Shaft reinforcment rod, Bearings and the resued cylinder.

A 5mm aluminium rod has been inserted in the shaft as the plastic would probably not hold the spool very long before to break. The support on which the spool holder is mounted is not from me and can be found on thingiverse, here:
